Spinal diseases are diseases that we may not even think about. However, they cause the most uncomfortable pain in our daily lives. Sometimes simple back and back pain that we do not care about in our daily lives can be the harbinger of very serious disorders.
Spine Fractures
It is one of the most feared diseases of the spine. The most common ones are collapse fractures caused by falls, traffic accidents, blows and the onset of osteoporosis in older ages.
They are usually associated with very serious traumas. Rarely, patients with spinal fractures come on foot, they usually arrive at the hospital by ambulance. After a proper examination of the patient, tests are ordered. The real problem starts here. Is surgery necessary?
Any numbness or loss of strength in the legs after a fracture is likely to require emergency surgery. If this is not an emergency, the location of the fracture, its relationship with the spinal cord and the possibility of future problems are evaluated and surgery or treatment is decided.
In patients who do not require surgery, treatment can be provided with different devices ranging from flexible corsets to steel and fixed corsets and rest. In patients who require surgery, it is generally necessary to use implants.
Lumbar hernia
It is one of the most underestimated and underappreciated disorders. In general, it can cause a wide range of complaints, from a simple tingle to a writhing pain.
The disease is caused by the gel-like discs between the bones of the spine pressing on the spinal cord and nerves. The greater the compression, the more symptoms it causes. The duration of the condition is also important. In other words, a hernia that grows slowly and compresses at increasing rates can sometimes be tolerated by the body, while small hernias that occur after sudden movements and strains can cause very serious problems and may require surgery.
Patients complain of pain and stiffness in the lower back. Sometimes there is a complaint of numbness in the legs. Further tests are requested according to the results of the examination. After the diagnosis is made, the evaluation of the patient begins. 90% of herniated discs can be cured with muscle relaxants and physical therapy methods. However, if the surgery for the remaining part is delayed, it may cause permanent and life-threatening complications.
Posture disorders
Back and lower back pain is the disease of our age. Pains that we do not pay attention to in our busy work life but affect our daily lives. The reason why mothers at home and teachers at school say “stand up straight, my child” when we are children. Most of them are caused by the weakness of the waist and back muscles. Appropriate strengthening of the back muscles supports the body to stand upright.
The configuration of our desk during the day is also important in the source of these pains. The ideal position is the height of the chair so that the knees are not folded and the foot is fully on the floor. Likewise, the hip joint should be at an average of 90 degrees and the waist and back should be as straight as possible. The neck should be upright and if a computer is used, the computer position should be adjusted so that the head is upright and can easily see the screen.
Sitting with too much slouching causes lower back pain and slouching causes back pain. Excessive bending of the neck during work causes stiff neck.
